Expat Psychologist in Singapore

Living abroad can bring opportunity alongside unexpected pressure. You may be adapting to a new workplace, rebuilding friendships, missing family or finding that a move has changed your sense of identity. Choosing expatriate life does not mean every part of it will feel easy.

I’m Franck Dibouës, a clinical psychologist practising since 2003 and working in Singapore since 2019. I offer consultations in French and English, in Singapore’s Central Business District and online. Discuss an appointment.

Support with the challenges of living abroad

The reasons for seeking support are different for each person. You may want to discuss work stress, loneliness, cultural adjustment, a change in professional identity or the effect of living far from people you rely on. Frequent moves and changing social networks can also raise questions about belonging and continuity.

Some difficulties are closely related to the move; others may have existed beforehand or become more noticeable in a new environment. We can explore this together without assuming that all expatriates share the same experience.

Individual therapy adapted to your situation

We begin with what is difficult for you now, its impact on everyday life and what you would like to change. Relevant background and, where useful, assessment questionnaires can help guide the work.

My therapeutic approaches include CBT and EMDR. We consider the approach that fits your difficulties rather than assuming that stress related to expatriate life requires a particular treatment. We agree on goals, review progress and adapt the work as needed.

If anxiety, persistent low mood or the effects of a difficult experience are part of your concerns, you can also read about anxiety therapy, depression therapy and trauma therapy.

Couples therapy using the Gottman approach

A move abroad may change how partners share responsibilities, maintain their careers or find support. I also offer couples therapy using the Gottman approach. My couples therapy practice is supervised by Géraldine Koempel. Please contact me to discuss your concerns and whether this format is appropriate for you as a couple.
