I can help you to overcome your anxiety in Singapore
I’m Franck Dibouës, Clinical psychologist since 2003 after being graduated of a Master in France.
I worked with patients with depression for years and trained in Paris in Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for continuing education.
CBT is the, scientifically proven, most effective psychotherapy to treat depression and anxiety.
With my 20 years experience, I will help you to overcome your anxiety.
Steps of the anxiety therapy
The first step, Franck will propose you some assessment tools and will eventually make a diagnostic (if useful and relevant).
The assessment tool can be the « STAI » or any similar questionnaire like the « Beck Anxiety Inventory » questionnaire.
According to the results of the assessments and the diagnostic, some specific help will be suggested.
Let’s take the example of panic attack, with or without any panic disorder.
The clinician will help you to gradually take control of your anxiety with some specific technic like psychoeducation, graduate exposure exercises, stress management program, which gradually allow you to better cope with your anxiety and its symptoms.
The question of the biological treatment is important and should not be taboo.
Psychotropic drugs are like the other drugs, it’s useful when it’s well prescribed to the good person at the good time.
Because anxiety disorders also have some biological origins (the heredity), it can be useful, in some specific situations to prescribe a biological treatment (often SSRIs and SNRIs).
If your Clinical Psychologist thinks you are in this situation, he will refer you to a Medical Doctor to complete the psychotherapy with the best treatment for you.
All studies show that in some specific situation, drug or psychotherapy only is not enough and has to be used together.
At the end of the consultation
- You will feel relief to talk about this difficult situation to a professional who will understand your situation. Patients with anxiety disorders often feel shame and insolation due to their fears.
- You will better understand the disorder which is fundamental to gain some control on it.
- You will understand the role played by the avoidances in the persistence of the disorder.
- You will gradually identify the avoidances.
- Gradually to reduce the avoidances which maintains the disorder along the time.
- You will gradually gain some control on the anxiety while coping better with the anxiogenic situations.

Q & A
Why am I anxious ?
You are anxious for several reasons. We tend to explain anxiety disorders by three different buckets of causes.
First the biological ones in which we find the heredity, the lifestyle (enough exercise, a good diet, no or very low usage of alcohol, the sleep…), the sex ratio, the good usage of treatments…
Second, some psychological reasons like the type of personality, the level of stress perceived, how the subject cope with stress, some eventual traumas during adulthood and/or childhood, the type of self-esteem, self-confidence and assertiveness, the life story…
Third reason, the role of the environment.
Is there enough “good” stress to stimulate the person ? Is the environment benevolent enough ? Are there enough resources around the person ?
In general, is the environment is perceived like helpful or harmful ?
Each person is the addition of all of these factors (and much more than this) and the anxiety is the response (excessive when there is a disorder) from its nervous system from its environment, filtered by its psychology (the way it sees the world).
Why is it better to treat my anxiety disorder?
Many studies show that it’s better to have psychotherapy in addition to, when it’s needed, a biological treatment, to reduce the influence and the impacts of the anxiety in somebody’s life.
The prior objective of the Clinical Psychologist is to help his patient without any drug when it’s possible. Only time and experience say if it’s possible or not.
It’s always the person’s decision to accept or not a biological treatment in addition to its psychotherapy.
The ideal situation is to avoid any treatment when it’s possible.
A biological treatment without any CBT psychotherapy could help to alleviate the stress but it cannot help the person to reduce the avoidances which fuels the anxiety in every day’s life.
Only the psychotherapy allows that. That’s why psychotherapy, especially CBT is fundamental to reduce the impact of the anxiety in the life of the person, with or without any drug.
